In Paradise the protoplasts had all the good things of the world. They were
cultivating the land and were extremely happy. They were keeping the command
given to them by God, and that is why they were happy.
Unfortunately, however, this carefree and peaceful life did not last long.
The devil was jealous of their happiness and decided to harm them, by
pushing them into disobedience.
One day, therefore, when Eve was walking in Paradise, the devil entered
into a snake, and as Eve approached, he asked her with a pretended interest:
“Eve, is it true that God has forbidden you to eat from the fruits of the
trees?”
"No, Eve replied. We can eat all the fruits of the trees, except the
tree of "Knowledge of Good and Evil". God told us, if we eat from it,
we will die.
“But, the devil said, if you eat from the fruit of this tree, you will also
become wise like God, and you will be able to distinguish good from evil. Not
only will you not die, but, on the contrary, you will also become gods”.
Eve, unfortunately, believed the false words of Satan. Doubt for
the love of God overwhelmed her heart and pushed her to disobey
God's command.
She looked curiously at the fruit of the tree of "Knowledge of Good
and Evil" and thought it would be very sweet and pleasant. She stretched
out her hand, picked a fruit and ate it. Then she gave some to Adam and he ate
it too.
But as soon as Adam and Eve ate from the fruit of the forbidden tree, they
realized what a bad thing they had done; that they disobeyed God's command. A
great bitterness and terrible sadness flooded their hearts. At the same time,
they felt something ugly and strange happening to them. They saw that they were
naked, so they picked fig leaves to cover their nakedness. How would they face
God now? What would they say to Him now that they had not obeyed His words, but
did what the devil told them?
Soon they heard God's footsteps, Who was walking in Paradise, as always.
Adam and Eve heard His voice and, instead of going to welcome Him, as they
usually did, they were now ashamed and afraid, so they hid behind the trees.
“Where are you, my child Adam?” God called out with love.
"I heard Your voice, Lord," said Adam terrified, and I was afraid, because I was naked, so I ran to hide.”
"I heard Your voice, Lord," said Adam terrified, and I was afraid, because I was naked, so I ran to hide.”
“Who told you that you were naked and you were afraid? God asked. Did you
perhaps eat some of the forbidden fruit?”
Adam, instead of apologizing to the most merciful God, for the
mistake they made, he tried to justify himself by saying:
“It is not my fault. The woman You gave me, to be with me, is to blame.
She gave me the fruit from the tree and I ate it.
Then God turned to the woman and said to her:
“Eve, why did you eat this fruit?
"Lord, the snake tricked me and I ate it," she said fearfully.
God was very sad that Adam and Eve had disobeyed His command, and instead
of apologizing for their mistake, they began to make excuses. He told them they
could no longer live in this beautiful garden. They had to leave. He also told
them that their life outside Paradise would be difficult, since the woman would
have to give birth to her children with pain and the husband must work hard
cultivating the land, so that they could have their daily food.
In a little while, Adam and Eve were outside of Paradise. The Angel of the
Lord led the protoplasts out of Paradise and closed its gate.
Adam and Eve realized that because of their disobedience they had forever
lost the happy life they had in Paradise. They were often remembering what a
beautiful time they were having there and were crying inconsolably.
But the most merciful and righteous God never ceased to love His
creatures, the humans. He punished them, of course, because He had to, and
that's why He sent them out of Paradise. But He did not leave them unprotected.
From the very first moment He planned their salvation. To relieve their
pain, He promised them that He would send our Lord Jesus Christ, Who would be
the Redeemer of the world.
With this promise, Adam and Eve were comforted. They got courage from this
and started their new difficult life.
