Before God created the material world we see, that is, the sky, the earth
and later, us humans, He first created another world, the spiritual world.
It is called a spiritual, intangible and invisible world, because it is not
material, so we cannot see it with our human eyes. This spiritual world is
the angels of heaven.
In our Creed we say: "I believe in God, the Father, Almighty,
Creator of heaven and earth, and of all things visible and
invisible."
So our good God created a countless multitude of angels fluttering around
His heavenly throne and praising Him continually with their angelic voices.
The angels love and worship God the Father and His only-begotten Son with
absolute obedience and devotion. They live in the most beautiful kingdom of the
whole world, the Heavenly Kingdom. In the heavenly kingdom the Holy Spirit
floods everything with Light and Love and makes their angelic beings live in
absolute happiness and joy.
The angels are shining with heavenly light and they are very beautiful. God
has given them many gifts, as well as the gift of free will, that is, they
themselves can decide between good and evil. God wants all His creatures to
love Him and follow His divine commands by their own free will.
The angels, according to the duty God has given them, are divided into
three triads, that is, into nine large groups called orders. Each order has a
name. The names of the nine orders are:
Seraphim, Cherubim, Thrones,
Dominions, Powers, Virtues,
Principalities, Archangels, Angels.
In the beginning there weren't nine orders of angels, but ten. The leader
of the tenth order was Lucifer.
Lucifer, at one point, envied the glory of the Son of God and decided to
take His glorious throne in a deceitful way. He wanted to become God and to
rule over all the creation of God. So he tried to persuade many angels to
believe him and follow him in his satanic choice.
At that moment, however, the Archangel Michael stood before all
the angels, and with much power and grace he spoke to them of the love and
gratitude that they all must have to God the Father. He told them that it is
wrong to believe the wicked Lucifer instead of their Creator and to appear to
have so little faith and be ungrateful to their own God.
The angels at that very moment, according to the gift of free will given to
them, had to decide for themselves who they would believe and who they would
follow.
The multitude of angels, when they listened to the Archangel Michael
speaking to them, understood Lucifer's cunning ways and fled far away from him.
Lead by the Archangel Michael, they knelt before the throne of God and declared
absolute submission, trust and devotion to their Creator.
God blessed the faithful angels and gave them a new gift. From now onwards,
to be always good and virtuous and nothing can affect them. He also blessed the
Archangel Michael, who, through his faith, love, and devotion, helped all the
angels not be led astray by the wicked Lucifer. He made him the leader and
supreme commander of all the angelic orders and gave him the most honorable
position within the glorious kingdom of Heaven, always to be beside His
glorious divine throne.
All the angels then began to praise and glorify the holy God with great
joy. Throughout the heavenly kingdom, their angelic hymn was echoing:
"Holy, holy, holy" and "Hallelujah," meaning "glory to
God."
